“We’re a green and growing family tree”
Tom Chapin, three-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter and performer who wrote and sings so many of the songs Carlson students and students across the country have enjoyed for decades, bought his feel-good music to Carlson Elementary School on April 25, 2014 for two spectacular performances. Begininning at 12:45pm, Tom performed for 350 current Carlson Students, their teachers, staff members and several former long-time Carlson teachers.
Tom sang so many of his well-known songs and Carlson favorites including Family Tree, Uh-Oh Accident, Shoevling, Library Song, This Pretty Planet, Alphabet Soup and many newer favorites including Whale Song, Everybody and Don’t Miss the Bus. Tom concluded with Together Tomorrow and then stuck around to great many of the students who were thrilled to meet the person who wrote and sings so many of their favorite songs!
Tom returned in the evening for the 7pm show for even more former teachers, past students, current students and their families and other members of the community. He sang many of the familiar songs from the afternoon concert in addition to songs such as Nick of Time, Long Way Home, Cousins, and his late-brother’s classic, Cats in the Cradle. It was a great day for the “Carlson School Family”!
Thank you to Tom and all of the people who made the concert possible! Please see below for a list of sponsors and contributors.
This was Tom’s first appearance at Carlson, where students, teachers and their families have been singing his songs for decades.

Thank you to the current Carlson students and teachers for the wonderful thank you notes and cards. It was a pleasure organizing the concert, and it was a joy watching you sing along to each one of Tom’s songs!
